Todd Neufeld was born on August 5th, 1981 in Huntington, NY. At the age of twelve, after studies at the piano and trumpet, he began playing a nylon string guitar found in his family's basement in Mamaroneck, NY. After beginning private study of the guitar, Todd soon found the music of Charlie Christian. The bootlegs of Christian at Minton's Playhouse began Todd's interest in jazz. With the encouragement of students and teachers at Mamorneck High School as well as local musicians, Todd's study of this musical tradition grew. He was soon performing with various local and national ensembles. In 1999 Todd attended New York University, where he studied both English Literature and Music. During this time Todd was living in the downtown area of New York City and benefiting from it's unique music scene. It was at NYU that Todd began his interest and study of classical composition and counterpoint. Throughout these periods Todd has benefited greatly from the private teachings of John Quara, Joe Giglio, Chris Jentsch, Vanderlei Pereira, Bruce Arnold, Tony Moreno and Jeff Slatnick. Since receiving his BA in 2003, Todd has had the good fortune to perform as a member of the Lee Konitz Quartet, the Masabumi Kikuchi TPT Trio, Gerald CleaverÂ’'s NiMbNl, the Dan Weiss Group, Tyshawn Sorey's Wu-Wei group, The Samuel Blaser Quartet as well as various bands with Michael Attias, Ohad Talmor, Russ Lossing, Michael Adkins, Ben Gerstein, Thomas Morgan, Jacob Sacks and many others. He has performed at New York venues such as Carnegie Hall, Birdland and the Blue Note as well as at concert halls and clubs across Europe and Canada. Aside from performing, Todd teaches guitar and music to students in the New York area. Todd currently resides in Brooklyn, NY. home schedule media links contact | |
